It was one of the hottest events of the summer: 100,000 spectators, 33° C, great atmosphere: The Vienna Major 2018 kept Beachvolleyball fans on the Danube Island in Vienna in suspense – just like the spectacular flyover of our Embraer jet directly above the Center Court …

Vienna Major on the Danube Island

When more than 100,000 fans and the best beach volleyball players in the world gather on Vienna’s Danube Island, then it’s time for the Vienna Major tournament! This year, our ambassadors Martin Ermacora and Moritz Pristauz also stood in the middle of the court and were cheered on by the entire stadium. With great skill and quite a bit of sweat the team #BVTEP managed to secure a place in the top 10. What a performance!

The Austrian Airlines community was very close to the action because Martin and Moritz let everyone experience what the Vienna Major feels like on the Center Court for the players live on our Instagram Channel. You can discover their tips on beach volleyball, exciting facts and comparisons of the sport and Austrian Airlines as well as their tournament “diary” in our Instagram Story highlights.

Lots of goodies & prizes

Of course, as a longtime partner of the Beach Major Series, we once again had many great goodies for the Austrian Airlines community this year – there were Friends & VIP tickets to win, making the visit to the tournament on the Danube Island a special experience. But we also had a lot in store for the visitors on site: Our cold towels were perfect to help cool off when the temperatures climbed above 30°C. With a little luck there were also Austrian Airlines caps and backpacks for the spectators.

The highlight, however, was the audience contest on the center court. Verena and Thomas competed to master a special challenge and win flights within Europe for five people. They each let an inflatable Austrian Airlines plane take off in opposite directions and encouraged the audience to move their aircraft as quickly as possible to the other end of the stadium. They were supported with loud enthusiasm by our beach volleyball ambassadors Ermacora / Pristauz. Verena and her supporter Moritz Pristauz were able to work together with the spectators in record time – we look forward to welcoming Verena and four friends on board soon!

Bossaball: sporty, sporty!

Even off the center court things got athletic. At first glance the playing field of the trend sport Bossaball might look like an oversized inflatable castle for adults, but it combines elements of volleyball, football, gymnastics and the Afro-Brazilian martial arts Capoeira and gives you quite a workout!

We sponsored the trend sport at the Vienna Major and were thrilled with the exciting matches that the Danube Island visitors delivered. After an autograph session with our Ambassadors #BVTEP at the Austrian Airlines stand we also raffled a bossa game against the two professional athletes. Winner Hannah and her friends threw, set and bumped the ball unerringly in Martins and Moritz direction.

A guest performance in the sky

An extraordinary guest surprised the crowd on Sunday with a special greeting. At an altitude of 300m, an Austrian Airlines Embraer Jet flew directly over the center court and a “Servus” laughed from its underbelly.
