That was one flight that Niki wouldn’t forget in a hurry! When he and his partner Borena were flying to Paris for a holiday together, she had a special surprise message to share. “Let’s make the most of our time alone together, before somebody else joins us. Niki, I’m pregnant.” What joyful tidings for the young couple! Read on to learn how Borena was able to send this message in the skies.
Austrian Airlines FlyNet is what makes it all possible. On all planes featuring the WIFI symbol, you can use our onboard internet to surf the web above the clouds. Whether you want to catch up on your emails, chat with friends or indulge in some retail therapy, we have three different FlyNet packages to cater for your individual internet needs.
In mid-July, passengers on selected short and medium haul flights were given the opportunity to use FlyNet free of charge and send personalised messages about their dream destinations from above the clouds. These messages were then passed on to a group of artists on Vienna’s Mariahilfer Straße, who turned them into creative #myMessageFromTheCloud illustrations.
Not all of them were surprise baby announcements – people also shared holiday greetings, their expectations about their destinations and their travel plans with the community, with places like Reykjavik, Marrakesh, Stockholm and Paris proving to be particularly popular destinations among our passengers that day. Here you can browse through all of the #myMessageFromTheCloud illustrations and get some inspiration for your next trip!
Those who also shared their #myMessageFromTheCloud with their friends on Facebook and Instagram had the chance to win business class flights within Europe and flight vouchers, with visitors to our event stall on Mariahilfer Straße also invited to share their photos and take part in the competition.
Eismarillenknödel for everyone
DJ Mosaken was one of those to send a #myMessageFromTheCloud. On his way back home to Vienna, the musician had a craving for a sweet treat and used FlyNet to share his desire for Eismarillenknödel (cream and apricot dumplings).
Staff at Vienna Airport pulled out all the stops and surprised DJ Mosaken and all the other passengers on his flight, after they landed, with this famous Austrian dessert.
