We can hardly wait to take off on holiday with you this summer! Today, members of the myAustrian Community reveal their favourite destinations for a great family holiday.

Italy – a family holiday in Milan

Jenny loves travelling to Italy with her son Nunu and has tips for Milan:

“Milan isn’t just the city of fashion, it also has a lot to offer to families. Children are welcome holiday guests in Italy, and always accepted with warmth and hospitality. With a flight time of just one hour 25 minutes from Vienna, Milan is also perfect for a short break. If you’re visiting the city with children, you should definitely make the time to go to the highly varied Parco Sempione as well: it has a small playground where children can let off steam. You should also take a look at the romantic lake as you’re walking through the beautiful grounds.

The most typically Italian way to see out the day is with an aperitivo. At the “Living” restaurant, you can get a drink of your choice and access to a buffet which lets you help yourself to Italian snacks for just ten euros. Many families go out and sit on the Plaza Sempione, where the children can run around and play.”

Greece – a road trip on Corfu

A true classic amongst family holiday destinations: the Greek island of Corfu. Even besides the particularly child-friendly, gently sloping, sandy beaches such as Glyfada and Pelekas, Corfu is convincing. Ellen was travelling in Greece recently, and explored the island in a rental car:

“On my last visit to Corfu, I took day-trips – just great for families. One of these day-trips took me to the north of the island. The first destination was the small village of Doukades, where you can experience Greek idylls. The next stop was Paleokastritsa, and a boat trip along the coast which was fun for kids and adults alike. There are glass bottom boats offering a great view of the marine life on the sea floor and let you discover many underwater treasures. After this adventure, you can enjoy a lovely warm evening in Agios Stefanos with calamari or other Greek delicacies at a taverna.”

Belgium – off to Flanders

myAustrian fan Andrea has traveled to Belgium many times with her family. They particularly liked Flanders, the northern part of the country:

“We love going on holiday in Flanders! So far we’ve been to all the major cities in the region. Ghent and Bruges are our favourites. There are beautiful canals there which let you take boat trips while learning a huge amount about the city at the same time. Just in case the sun doesn’t shine, there are some great museums to explore – including the more eccentric ones, like the Fries Museum or the Chocolate Museum. Last time, we even spent a night in Brussels, and did a tour of the brightly-coloured comic walls.
